Character Installation GuideMicrosoft Agent characters can be downloaded in 3 different formats. An ACS file, an EXE installer, or any archive file. (.zip, .7z, .rar) For people who are just starting with Microsoft Agent, it is important to know how to download and install each format a Microsoft Agent character can come in. Agent Character Storage Files (.ACS)The Agent Character Storage files (.ACS) is the most common file type you will see when downloading a Microsoft Agent character. ACS files are the actual Microsoft Agent character themselves. They are pretty easy to install, with the only difference being where you place them based on your operating system. Windows 98 and abovePlace the character file in C:\Windows\MSAgent\Chars. Any Windows NT VersionPlace the character file in C:\WinNT\MSAgent\Chars. Executable Installer Files (.EXE)Characters may also come in EXE installers, which will install the character for you. Installing a character through an EXE installer is very simple, just double click the installer and go through the dialogs. (If there are any) Please beware, as EXE installers can contain or be malware, which can harm your system. Please make sure you got the file from a trusted source, and scan it through an antivirus to comfirm that it is safe. For extra protection, run the file on a Virtual Machine sandbox service like Any Run or Triage to not only see if it's a virus, but to also see what it does. Archive File Types (.ZIP, .7Z, .RAR)Another file format a character can come in are in archive files. Installing a character through an archive file is similar to the previous two, but with one extra step. To install a character through an archive file, simply extract the file, see if it's a .ACS or .EXE, and read the first or second step to see how to install the character. If you're on Windows 11, you can simply extract most archive files through the pre-installed archive viewer program in Windows. However, on Windows 10 and before, you'll need to install an archive extracting program (Like 7-Zip or WinRAR) in order to extract .7z and .RAR files. Beware that even though archive files are not executable themselves, they may contain malicious executable files in them. Some ZIP files may be password protected, which can prevent antiviruses from finding any malware in it before it's extracted. Please make sure you got the file from a trusted source, and scan any files that can be malicious like EXE files, application extensions, (.dll) script files (.vbs, .js), macro-enabled documents, (.docm, xlsm, pptm) and macro-enabled world templates (dotm, xltx, potx). |
